With over 30 years experience as a practioner in Humboldt County, I have worked with diverse communities serving a wide range of needs. I have been honored to have designed and provided therapeutic support and healing in settings that serve those with the following challenges: Psychiatric conditions in both out- and in-patient settings; sexual, physical and psycho-emotional trauma and PTSD; substance use and substance dependency issues; anger and impulse management; cross-cultural challenges; LGBTQ + support; polyamory; couples discord; family discord; adolescent growth and thriving; psycho-spiritual impasse and development.
I have over 15 years experience designing and facilitating a variety of therapeutic groups and growth-focused seminars for men. I have provided clinical supervision and guidance to both interns and licensed therapists and have provided critical incident stress debriefing for businesses and agencies and I have provided reports and court testimony as an expert witness. As a semi-professional musician and photographer with a degree in literature, I emphasize and draw upon the healing potentiality inherent in creative and expressive traditions. As a traveler, beginning with my Peace Corps tenure in Africa, and speaker of 2 foreign languages, my therapy is informed by a deep respect for the richness and varied cross-cultural philosophies, traditions and healing perspectives from around the world.

With an eclectic approach rooted in the radical acceptance and unconditional positive regard of humanistic psychology, I draw from healing modalities appropriate to who you are, how you process, your core needs and strengths and where you are in your journey. We may address unresolved wounds and losses through the interpretative and exploratory power of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic modes, as well as drawing on tools and ideas from archetypal psychology, depth psychology, gestalt therapy and existential psychology. The latter modalities are beneficial for those with creative and psycho-spiritual needs and those cultivating greater depth and meaning in their lives. The task of integrating our disparate dimensions and gifts, updating old patterns and habits that no longer serve us, is supported by modalities that both ground and free us. These include a body-centered approach to CBT, DBT, solution focus therapy and the concepts and practices of mindfulness. As a family and couples therapist, I draw upon the foregoing modalities as well as a family systems approach supported by Emotionally Focused Therapy.
